Today's Headlines: Couple, 5 Others Die In Osun Auto Crash, Nigerian Army Passes Out 6,315 Soldiers



A couple, whose name could not be immediately ascertained and five others were confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred in Oogi, Osun State.


According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle involved was coming from the Osogbo axis and headed to Odeomu, when the accident occurred some minutes past 7 p.m. on Friday.


The driver of the vehicle was said to have lost control, as it veered off the road and fell into a ditch killing some of the occupants on the spot and leaving others injured.


The Nigerian Army on Saturday passed out 6315 Recruits of the 85 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) in a regimental Passing Out Parade (POP) held at the Parade Ground of the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna state.


Addressing the Passing out Recruits, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja felicitated the young soldiers for the successful completion of their training, describing it as qualitative, realistic and tailored to meet the contemporary security needs of the country.


A statement from Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations said, “The journey to soldering by the Six Thousand Three Hundred and Fifteen (6,315) passing out Recruits, began after successfully undergoing a painstaking selection process, and reporting for training at the Depot Nigerian Army on 3 June 2023, culminating in the POP.


NYSC Announces Rescue Of One Abducted Corps Member


The management of the National Youth Service Corps says it has secured the release of one of the seven female prospective corps members abducted in Zamfara.


This was made known in a press statement signed by NYSC Spokesperson Eddy Megwa on Saturday.


According to the statement, the said female corps member was rescued on Friday night at 12:30 p.m. “through the help of security agencies”, while expressing optimism that the rest of the abducted corps will be released.


As the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State approaches, the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have resoundingly reiterated their confidence in securing a landslide victory, asserting that the opposition parties stand no chance.

This emphatic statement was made in Ochadamu, Ofu local government area of the state, during the APC’s ward sensitization meeting held on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Onogwu Muhammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Governor, articulated the compelling reasons behind their optimism. He highlighted the considerable achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration, emphasizing that these accomplishments are more than sufficient to secure another gubernatorial victory for the APC. He pointed to the extensive party structure that spans 3,508 polling units and 239 wards in the state, which forms the backbone of their electoral prowess.
