Hamas says almost 50 Israeli hostages were killed during Israel bombing raids in Gaza

Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, stated on Thursday that they believe "almost 50" Israeli hostages, who were held in the Gaza Strip since the October 7 attacks, have lost their lives due to Israeli bombing raids in the Palestinian territory, according to Daily Trust. Following the attacks carried out by Hamas on southern Israel, Israel initiated a large-scale air and artillery bombardment of Gaza.
The Israeli army previously reported that 224 individuals were abducted by militants during the attack, resulting in the tragic loss of over 1,400 lives, primarily civilians. Military spokesman Daniel Hagari emphasized that they have been in contact with the families of the hostages, and the number may change as new intelligence is obtained. He stressed that efforts to secure the release of the hostages remain a top priority.

According to Israeli government sources (which AFP has not confirmed), it is believed that at least half of the hostages possess foreign passports.

In Tel Aviv, an organization representing the families of the hostages expressed their growing impatience and demanded an immediate meeting with top government officials. They asserted, "No more patience, from now on we will fight." Meirav Leshem Gonen, the mother of one of the captives, Romi Gonen, emphasized their determination to take a leading role in the struggle and urged the cabinet to provide a plan for the return of the hostages.
